MRS. OMA LEE GOWDY
Mrs. Oma Lee Gowdy, age 75, of Blue Mountain, Route 2, died in the Tippah County Hospital early last Thursday morning, December 10, after being there for three days. She had been in ill health for about three years. The funeral service was held in the McBride Funeral Home chapel Friday afternoon with Rev. Clyde Thompson in charge, assisted by Mr. Edward Burge. Burial was in the Blue Mountain cemetery.
Mrs. Gowdy was a native of Hickory Flat, a daughter of the late Hezzie Box and Mrs. Ida Bumpas Box. She was a Baptist.
Surviving are, her husband Rayburn Gowdy, of Blue Mountain; three sons, Roy Box, of Ashland; Newell Box of Ashland and Pat Box of Macon; two daughters, Mrs. Arzella Akins, of Blue Mountain; and Mrs. Bevalee Leach, of Millington, Tenn; two brothers, Dick Box, of Memphis; and Dalton Box of Memphis; five sisters, Mrs. Ruby Henry of New Albany, Mrs. Hat Taylor of Memphis; Mrs. Gladys Froman of Holly Springs; Mrs. Vera Churchville of Potts Camp; and Mrs. Elene Burks of Hickory Flat. Also surviving 24 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
Pall bearers included, Danny Box, Billy Ray Box, David Mason, Lee Box and Gary Box.
