RITES FOR MRS. LURA GOWDY HELD AT BLUE MOUNTAIN
Funeral services for Mrs. Lura Gowdy of Blue Mountain were held on Tuesday
afternoon, March --- at two o'clock at the Lowrey Memorial Baptist Church with burial
following at the Blue Mountain Cemetery. The Rev. W. C. Tyler officiated, assisted
by Brothers --- art, Pipkin and J. W. Howell.
Mrs. Gowdy who was 78, passed away on Sunday night, March 21st at the Tippah County Hospital after an illness of three months. She was the widow of the late ------ce Gowdy. Mrs. Gowdy was a member of a prominent Tippah County family having been born and reared here. She was the daughter of the late Byrd and ----e Smith Callicutt. She was a (loyal) member of the Lowrey Memorial Baptist Church.
She leaves four sons: Ernest Gowdy of West Point; Rayburn, R. --- and Lester L. all of Blue Mountain. Two daughters: Mrs. Leona ---nett and Mrs. Bertie Bennett both of Blue Mountain and three (sisters) Mrs. Viola Gowdy, Mrs. ----es Godwin and Mrs. Oscar -- ves all of Blue Mountain. (Tw)elve great grandchildren and ------grandchildren. R. L. Nance and Company of Ripley was in charge of funeral arrangements.
