GOWDY FAMILY

John Gouedy

John Gouedy was born around 1780 probably in South Carolina. John Goudy later married a woman named Jane (maiden name unknown). They had five children: William Goudy (born April 1, 1810), Nancy Goudy (born ?), Robert M. Goudy (born 1825), Eliza Goudy (born 1820) and Jane Gowdy (born 1824). Buried in Sand Spring Cemetery (1 mile east of Blue Mountain, Mississippi) there is a grave for Jane (wife of John Goudy) stating birth April 1, 1781 and death January 1864. John and Jane Goudy lived in Abbeville, South Carolina according to the 1830 census and 1840 census. 1850 census just shows Jane Goudy listed which means John Goudy died before then.

In fact John Gowdy left a will which I found in the Oklahoma Historical Society from a South Carolina book on Wills. The will was dated 1846.

Special thanks to Rosemary Hollis who has submitted the estate records of John Goudy.
